Dear Friend,
This week, we are excited to share with you a high quality offering that also comes at a sharp price point. This featured wine comes from Spain which is the perfect country to find high quality wines with great value. Many people may not know this, but Spain has more acres planted to grape vines than any other country in the world. They are also the third largest wine producing country, so we have lots of juice to choose from and values to find. Bodegas Volver Tempranillo is a wine we have carried for years; it is always a terrific value, offering rich flavors of black fruits and licorice intermingled with some toasty oak. If you haven't tasted it for a while, now is a great time, especially when it is on sale at over 20% off!
Bodegas Volver was founded in 2004 by enologist Rafael Cañizares. His family had been involved for four generations in all aspects of wine production. Rafael wanted to start a winery to help show that his home country of Spain could produce outstanding wines from many different vineyard sites. He saw that La Mancha had many old vine indigenous vineyards, some of the grape varietals were fairly unknown. These had been either over cropped or just not cared for properly. The Volver estate was blessed with vines between 30 and 90 years old that had been cultivated in a sustainable way, with minimal intervention.
Over the last 20 years, Cañizares' wines have received numerous outstanding scores, especially considering the modest price points. What makes Rafael most proud, is passing it on to the next generation. Today, Sofia Cañizares, daughter of Rafael, is slowly taking on more duties at the winery. She has a clear vision for the future of her family's estate and has been blessed to have her father as a mentor.
Bodegas Volver “Single Vineyard” Tempranillo is made with old vines from a 70-acre vineyard planted in 1957. This sandy soil vineyard mixed with limestone and red clay produces very little, but high-quality fruit. The grapes are always hand-picked, and this vintage was aged for 15 months in new French oak barrels.
If you are interested in today's featured wine, please reply to this email, call your nearest location or click the Shop Now Button to order. Curbside pickup or delivery is available. These are in stock at all of our locations. This Tempranillo is excellent on its own, great with firm cheeses like Manchego but is also perfect with grilled meats or hearty stews. This wine is a great example of a bottle that offers lots of complex flavors for a fairly low price. Some of the stores have a few bottles of the 2018 left, this scored 92 points from Vinous and is drinking wonderfully right now. Grab those while they last.
Sincerely,
Alek Leontie
