Two Tasty Wines for Spring!

With Easter being a couple weeks later than it was last year, we are going to have two weeks of recommendations, both will be on sale up until April 20th. This week we will focus on lighter wines, great for appetizers or one of the more popular Easter dishes, glazed Ham. The Rosé is a terrific wine at an incredible price. For the last two years, we have pre-ordered a bunch and each year it has sold out by mid-summer. The 2024 vintage just arrived and we are thrilled to have it available for Easter this year! The difficult to pronounce, Txakoli, is a perfect white wine for warmer months with its fresh, light and lively style. It is part of the Jorge Ordonez Spanish portfolio; we have shared many wines from the portfolio with you. Serving Riesling with Ham is a classic pairing but this white wine is a nice alternative to a drier Riesling and equally versatile. Its liveliness is great with fresh shucked oysters to start the celebration. Try these both now while they are on sale!

Petit Balthazar and the wines of Pierrick Harang are outstanding values. Over the last few years, his Rosé and Sauvignon Blanc/Viognier blend have become favorites. We purchased more of this wine last year and it still sold out.  Pierrick Harang comes from five generations of wine merchants and oenologists. They have no fancy castle and own no vines, but he is an extremely talented winemaker who finds outstanding vineyards to work with on a long-term basis. His Rosé is exactly what it should be: bright, crisp, and refreshing. It’s a steal of a deal, on sale at only $7.99! 

Txomin Etxaniz was founded by the Etxaniz family who still owns it today. Domingo de Etxaniz began the estate in 1649 and today they are not just one of the most historic families but also one of the most important families in the Spanish coastal town of Getaria, near San Sebastian. Fast-forward to the early 1980's, Iñaki Txueka started a movement to revitalize Txakoli from Getaria and was the leader in the founding of the D.O. 'Getariako Txakolina' in 1989. They work only with the indigenous varieties of Hondarrabi Zuri and Hondarrabi Beltza, planted on beautiful seaside vineyards. Some of the vines are over 100 years old! Today, they are considered a standard of Txakoli that others thrive to imitate.
