Better Than a Bouquet of Roses!

Valentine’s Day is right around the corner so we thought this week we would offer two wines perfect for your loved one. Whether you are making an elegant dinner or simply looking for an exceptional bottle of wine for your Valentine to share during the evening, our two selections are guaranteed to please.

Sparkling Rosé is an excellent choice for a Valentine's Day gift. It is also a great way to begin a romantic Valentine’s Day meal. La Gioiosa Prosecco Rosé Millesimato is from Italy’s new Prosecco Rosé DOC. These bubbles will sparkle, in all the right ways.

What could be more romantic than a box of rich chocolates and a great bottle of wine? Bergström Pinot Noir Cumberland Reserve paired with a bar of dark chocolate will make your Valentine blush. It is also great with a roasted whole chicken so maybe buy one for your Valentine and buy five more for your cellar!

Prosecco is one of the world’s most loved wines with almost half a BILLION bottles made annually! In 2020, the Prosecco consortium agreed to give Prosecco Rosé DOC status. Up until then Rosé made in the Prosecco region was labeled as simply Sparkling Rosé. La Gioiosa, founded in 1974 by the Moretti Polegato family, was the first Prosecco Rosé we brought into the stores when the new designation was introduced. La Gioiosa wines are named after the province where the wines are farmed and produced, Treviso. Treviso is a major region in Prosecco territory and the region was nicknamed "joyous" years ago due to the fertile farmland. The Moretti Polegato family was recognized by the Italian chamber of commerce for helping to popularize Prosecco around the world and La Gioiosa has been converting all of their vineyards to Biodiversity certification. The delicious Prosecco Rosé we are offering today is a blend of 85% Glera and 15% Pinot Nero, where the Prosecco gets its pink color. It is a perfect bottle of sparkling wine to have around for an impromptu celebration, Sunday brunch and even Valentine’s Day.

I have been a fan of Bergström Wines since I had their 2006 Cumberland Reserve Pinot Noir. Back then, they were a new winery in Oregon but they were achieving great press. Today, they are one of the finest producers of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay in Oregon. John and Karen Bergström started Bergström Wines with a 13-acre vineyard overlooking the Willamette Valley. John is of Swedish descent and grew up in a very agricultural area in Sweden. He moved by himself to the United States as a teenager, to chase the American dream. He became a successful surgeon but never gave up his passion for the land, so years later when the chance came to purchase this property, he jumped at it. In 1999, their son Josh Bergström finished his studies in Viticulture and Enology in Burgundy, France. That same year, the Bergström’s harvested the first vintage of Bergström Pinot Noir from fruit from a neighbor’s vineyard. Josh, the fourth of five children, is now general manager and winemaker, and his wife Caroline manages the sales team at Bergström Wines. They now own 70 acres in total, all farmed organically, letting the vineyards speak for themselves. The wines in general are all highly allocated; we have 7 cases of Pinot Noir Cumberland Reserve which will probably sell out soon. The Cumberland Reserve is a blend of some of the best barrels, from each vintage, from the family's five estate-grown vineyards. The goal is to highlight the differences in each vintage while always maintaining the Bergström style of a perfect mix of spice, minerals, and bright fruit flavors.

These are in stock at all of our locations and while the juice inside is what is important, both come beautifully packaged and will make great gifts for Valentine’s Day. If you are not shopping for Monday, they are both flat out great wines for anytime of the year. Grab a bottle to try while both are on sale!

La Gioiosa Prosecco Rosé Millesimato - Veneto, Italy 750mL

90 Points - JamesSuckling.com
"Attractive aromas of watermelon, light peach and cherry follow through to a full body with a round, easy feel. Very fruity and delicious. Creamy texture. Delicious. Drink now." - James Suckling

Bergström Pinot Noir Cumberland Reserve 2019 - Willamette, Oregon 750mL

94 Points - Wine Advocate
"A barrel blend, the 2019 Pinot Noir Cumberland Reserve has a medium ruby-purple color and opens with some flinty tones over cranberries, bitter citrus and amaro aromas. Grainy and fresh, the medium-bodied palate offers crunchy fruits and fine earthy accents, finishing long, uplifted and spicy. Drink 2022 - 2032" - Erin Brooks
