Certified Organic Red that Over-Delivers!

The Southern Rhône Valley in France is home to serious wines and incredible wine values. Today, we are featuring another great vintage from Château Pesquié Terrasses. Over the last few years, despite rave reviews and an increase in tariffs, the price for Château Pesquié Terrasses has remained virtually the same. Each vintage of Château Pesquié Terrasses gathers more fans for the wine, who love its complex old-vine fruit perfectly integrated with soft tannins. It is one of the few wines at this price point that will not only last a few years, but will actually improve in the bottle. Those of you who purchased the 2015, 2016, or 2017 vintages know the wine is special. If you have not tasted this wine, now is the perfect time to try a bottle!

In the early 1970’s, Odette & René Bastide bought Château Pesquié from an heir of a famous Provençal writer, Alphonse Daudet. Despite a long vine growing tradition in the area, the AOC Côtes du Ventoux was not created until 1973. Recent discoveries show wine was made here as far back as 100 BC! René & Odette replanted much of the vineyards and now the vines average 35 to 40 years of age, the oldest are close to a hundred years old.

In the mid-1980’s, Odette & René’s daughter and son-in-law Edith & Paul Chaudière decided to give up their medical careers to take over the family estate. They went on several research trips to other great wine regions and they went back to school, this time they focused on grape growing. In 1989, after several years of research and study, the Bastide and Chaudière families started Château Pesquié. At the time, they were selling their grapes to the local Cooperative. The Ventoux AOC appellation had fewer than 10 independent cellars. Now, Château Pesquié is the leader of top quality wine in the region. The family tradition continues with the third generation, brothers, Alex and Fred Chaudière.

This year’s vintage is a blend of Grenache and Syrah grown in the various soils beneath Mount Ventoux. These soils, located at an average altitude of about 300 meters, offer a blend of various terroirs, from gravelly soil covered with pebbles, to soils of lime-stone and clay. This super value offers very round tannins and aromas of fresh berries, with lots of floral and spicy flavors. This wine pairs well with simple dishes such as pizzas or burgers, to more creative cuisine like roasted chicken or grilled meats.

These are in stock at all of our locations. This wine is drinking great right now and will probably last up to ten years in your cellar—grab a bottle or even a case, today!

Château Pesquié Ventoux Terrasses Rouge 2019 750mL

91 Points - Jeb Dunnuck
“A wine that has almost always ranked high on my top value list over the past decade or more, the 2019 Ventoux Terrasses offers a slightly deeper, richer style than the Edition 1912M, with plenty of black cherry and redcurrant fruits intermixed with more peppery garrigue, earth, and a touch of meatiness. More medium-bodied, lively, and beautifully textured, with silky tannins, it’s another no-brainer red that would be one hell of a house red. You can enjoy bottles today or safely cellar them for upwards of a decade. I recently finished a case of the 2005 that was still going strong, so this wine has plenty of longevity.” - Jeb Dunnuck (10/6/20)

90 points - Wine Advocate
“The 2019 Ventoux Terrasses remains one of the top values in the Southern Rhône. A 60-40 blend of Grenache and Syrah, it offers aromas of black cherries and raspberries, underscored by hints of black olives. Medium to full-bodied, it's round and silky-firm in feel, with a long, mouthwatering finish.” – Joe Czerwinski (9/10/20)
