I love the wines from Burgundy, and when deciding on which wines to enjoy, I often think about them. They can be absolutely thrilling to drink when you find a great one, but the search can sometimes be long and expensive! One can argue, quite convincingly, that these are the greatest expressions of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir in the world. An incredible wine generally comes with a hefty price tag, but when there is an opportunity to have a special bottle, from a great vintage, made in miniscule quantities, by true artisans, it must be grabbed quickly before it is gone. I have secured a fantastic opportunity for you! For red wines, today’s offering brings us to the Cote d’Or where you will find all of the famous Grand Crus and big name wines that can cost upwards of $5,000 for a single bottle! For white wines, we went a little north to Chablis, a village of about 3,000 people where it is still possible to find value in white burgundy. Chablis offers a cooler climate and mineral rich soils, which when combined produce electric wines. Best of all, their Premier Cru and Grand Cru wines sell for half the price of Premier Cru or Grand Cru wines about 60 miles south in the Cote d’Or.
These are arriving next week and we only have a few cases of each wine available. Please let us know if you are interested and we will have them ready for pick up by the end of next week.
Brothers Romain and Damien Bouchard’s, Domaine de l'Enclos', first vintage might have been the 2016, but they have Chablis in their blood. Their father, Pascal Bouchard had his own winery in Chablis for years. The brothers grew up working with him from a very young age. He sold the winery in 2015 but passed along many of the vineyards to his sons to farm. They are now making organically grown wines from a historic property in the center of Chablis that is catching the eyes of the old guard in Chablis. I have had the chance to taste a number of their offerings from Petit Chablis to Grand Cru wines and today’s wines are simply stunning. Anyone who is a fan of great Chablis needs to try these wines before the words get out and prices start to climb! Here is a great chance to grab a rare, blue chip white burgundy, from the outstanding 2019 vintage, at the sharpest prices in the state!
Reviews below are from La Revue du Vin de France. Due to the miniscule amount of wine produced here, it is very hard to find them reviewed by the mainstream media. Jancis Robinson (MW) however states, “Le Revue du Vin is France’s only serious wine magazine.”
92 Points – La Revue du Vin de France
“An intense .55 hectare plot of Premier Cru vines planted in ’71 near the edge of the woods in Montmains. Very full-throttle, with smoke and iodine, and a pure rush of intense fruit. A juggernaut in a tuxedo, perhaps…”
94 Points – La Revue du Vin de France
“Brothers Romain and Damien Bouchard farm .47 hectares of south -facing vines in the famed Grand Cru of Vaudesir. This is a ripe, dense, and mineral style of Chablis. Biodynamic & organic, from a very buzzworthy ‘young’ Domaine, that has some very nice ‘old-vine’ holdings.”
